Delicious! Hummus in Jordan

Delicious! Hummus in Jordan

We had to try this place touted on our Rough Guide’s book as the best restaurant in Madaba, if not all of Jordan. In fact, it was strongly recommended on Trip Advisor as well as by our hotel owner and the local souvenir vendor. You could order an array of mezzes (appetizer) dishes and call it dinner. They are simple and small, like tapas, but so well prepared and flavorful. The bread that accompanies every meal is perfectly toasted warm with just a sprinkle of fresh-roasted sesame seeds. Delicious!

Delicious! Shish kebab wrap in Turkey

On Gina’s request, I am writing about this amazing wrap that Angela and I had in Istanbul. Overall, our gastronomic pursuit in Turkey yielded only a C+ or B- grade, but this wrap was one of the highlights. We found this vendor on a backstreet just behind a major tourist attraction. Angela wasn’t interested when I asked if she wanted one, that is until she saw it. The perfectly grilled kebab chicken was wrapped with lot of lettuce and tomatoes, and then topped with a touch of chili powder. Delicious!

Delicious! Freshly squeezed juice and pastries in Istanbul

Fresh squeezed orange and pomegranate juices in Istanbul are very cheap. We found this place near our hotel where orange juice was $0.7 USD and pomegrante was $1. Another nearby pastry store sells freshly baked Turkish borek for 35 cents. When served fresh, these boreks rival the best croissants served in Paris! This was what we ate and drank every morning. Five days straight!

Delicious! Seafood in Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the highest shrimp producing countries in the world. As you can imagine, the seafood here is grrrrreeeat. With Angela and me both being seafood enthusiasts, we obviously wouldn’t miss it for the world. This was at a street side restaurant in the Mekong Delta. We picked the seafood that was on display and they cooked it in open flame. The shrimps were jumping when I picked them. Sorry, their loss was my gain.

Delicious! Vietnamese street food not on the streets

The street foods in Vietnam all look amazing, but many people have warned us against them for sanitary reasons. Here is a restaurant in Hanoi with a nice decor without the high end price. In this restaurant are many stalls that serve the most authentic Vietnamese street foods and beverages. You can walk around first to take a look and then go back to your table and order from the menu. It was so good that we went to the same restaurant when we got to Ho Chi Minh City.

Delicious! Vietnamese vegetarian noodles

Asia is the land of noodles. Whether you go north to Japan or south to Indonesia, you will see plenty of noodles. Here we were riding a scooter in the Mekong Delta and came across this dive with quite a few customers. Great thing about being on a scooter is that you can just pull right in. We walked in, people curiously looked at us for not knowing how to order, and the owner made us this bowl of noodles.

Eating is a very big part of our travels. We both love food (but Angela more so than me) and we love to sample local cuisines. We get ecstatic when we come across a great local meal with a great price, and we get bumbed out when extorted by a tourist trap. After having sampled so much good food along the way, I find that it only makes sense to dedicate some real estate on this blog to food. I introduce the new category “delicious!”. There won’t be a lot of …
