Where in the world?
So the other day I discovered these round-the-world travel programs offered by a number of airline alliances. I was amazed by how flexible these programs are and how reasonable the cost is. You pay by continents, starting at 3. Each incremental continent only adds about $500 USD, and within each continent you can fly up to 4 times. It’s an amazing deal.
All of a sudden, the whole world has opened up, and my brain immediately went into overdrive, contemplating the endless possibilities and opportunities. I screamed out my new discovery to Angela, who was doing dishes or laundry in the kitchen. Africa first came into her mind. She wants to do Africa. She also wants to do Israel, and Morocco, and Australia, and guess where, Kazakhstan. She says she can give up China. I said she has just betrayed her own culture…
Two days later, after spending more time at the bookstore, I have come to realize that we have to be much more selective. 6 months is not really as much time as we have thought. So I asked her, “Australia or Africa? You can only pick one. And if you drop Australia, so goes Fiji, because it is considered the same continent by the airlines.”
Tough choice. We can’t decide. Safari in Africa with an ending in Zanzibar does sound pretty amazing, but a WhitSunday and Australia outback combination is equally attractive.
She said she would give up Turkey and Greece, but not Tuscany or Spain, and she really wants to go to Israel.
In any case, this is a nice problem to have — where in the world should we go? I am thoroughly enjoying solving this problem.
