About Us
We are two humans and a canine who have spent a collective 27 years in New York City. We both have great, stable jobs that support us comfortably. Yet, at the end of April 2009, during a moment’s conversation over dinner at a restaurant whose name escapes us, we decided to uproot ourselves from our beloved city in the worst economy since the Great Depression and go traveling for 6 months. We concluded that this is our last opportunity for some exploration and adventure before starting a family. In that respect, there is really no better time than now. Alas, we are leaving the east coast for good and will settle in San Francisco when we finish our travels.
In preparation for our road trip, we sold Angela’s beloved (but Henry thought it was a piece of junk) Honda Civic and acquired a 12-year-old Nissan Pathfinder for $4100. We installed a Thule cargo box on the rooftop to free up more romping room for Joey, our golden retriever.
The first two months will be spent on the road, from New York to Alaska and then back to San Francisco. Along the way, we will visit friends, families, and attend a few weddings. Beyond that, we have a thousand ideas but not the slightest of a plan. We are thoroughly enjoying this state of “not knowing.” It is a luxury few travelers have, and we are going to take full advantage of it. We will have plenty of time on the road to figure things out. So, with Alaska in mind, we head west from Manhattan on July 23. If our truck holds up, we will make it all the way to Prudhoe Bay. That’s 6,500 miles (10,400 km) from our origin. In case you’re wondering, of course Joey is coming to Alaska with us. We just have to prevent him from enticing the bears.
Follow us if you can. Drop us a note to say hi. You will brighten our day.

"Every morning I awake torn between a desire to save the world and an inclination to savor it. This makes it hard to plan the day. But if we forget to savor the world, what possible reason do we have for saving it? In a way, the savoring must come first."
